Mission: Dust in the wind II (M3 "Honey")

Post by lockie on Tue Sep 09, 2014 5:12 pm

This mission is planning to be released at the end of September 2014. It is almost the same mission as "Dust in wind", but there will be some new details:
    - mission tasks organized more closer to NATO standards
    - new voiced radio-messages

    (sample: 4shared.com/music/xMEKdbMfba/msg_dust2_9.html)
    - new tank M3 "Honey"

and finally there will be commander unit: APC UC Bren.
The idea to re-design mission completely belongs to 33lima. I think he may add a couple words of explanation.

    Note:
Mission has been included into GMP1.x

I am really looking forward to this mission.

The proper mission planning, with tasks organized close to "real life", and the voiced radio messages sound great !!!

That will be briefing, which 33lima kindly presented for the mission with tank M3 "Honey".

    ORDERS for McKENNAFORCE
West of El Alamein, 22 November 1942

You're a lieutenant Peter O'brien commanding a troop of three Stuart (M3 "Honey") tanks from 5th Royal Tank Regiment, part of the Eighth's Army's 22nd Armoured Brigade. Sitting on the warm sand beside you are four other officers - another tank troop
leader like yourself, two infantry platoon commanders from 1st Battalion, the Rifle Brigade and a Forward Air
Controller from the Desert Air Force. Kneeling in front, with his map spread flat on the sand where you can all
see it, Captain McKenna, your leader, is giving out the orders for this operation.

    "GROUND"
Right, chaps, look at this map! We are here, marked 'Initial Position'. Pay particular attention to the village of
SIDI KHAMSIN, marked in blue - see it? This is a critical choke point on the enemy's lines of communication: its loss
could turn his withdrawal into a rout. Note the enemy trenches and defensive positions marked on the map.

    SITUATION

    Enemy forces
Sidi Khamsin is defended by motorised infantry in weak company strength with heavy MGs and some light field or A/T guns.
Many buildings in the village have been fortified. There is also a small counterattack force of Italian and German light
armour and half-tracked infantry at Shufta el Kebir, about 3 miles to the south.

    Friendly forces
Eighth Army is continuing to push the Afrika Korps back from El Alamein. Our parent unit, 22nd Armoured Brigade, is still
    a half-day's march behind us.
We have no artillery support is but the Desert Air Force has a special flight with Mosquito fighter-bombers operating in
our area and we have a Forward Air Controller with us.

    MISSION
To seize and hold Sidi Khamsin. I say again, to seize and hold Sidi Khamsin.

    EXECUTION
    General Outline
The operation will be in two phases.
Phase 1 - McKennaforce will attack and destroy the enemy in Sidi Khamsin.
Phase 2 - we will take up defensive positions and hold Sidi Khamsin against the expected enemy counterattack.

    Detailed Tasks
Phase 1 - Tanks and infantry will attack on the same axis - the red arrow on the map. The Stuart troop will shoot the
infantry onto the objective. Priority targets for all troops are A/T guns and MGs.
Phase 2 - After Sidi Khamsin is clear of the enemy, the infantry will turn LEFT and dig in facing Shufta el Kebir.
The Troop Leaders will deploy their tanks to cover the infantry.
The DAF Mosquitos will be operating in this area during Phase 2 and may be able to help.
For both phases, McKennaforce HQ and the Forward Air Controller will move behind the infantry, in two half tracks.

    Co-ordinating Instructions
    H-Hour is in 10 minutes.
Phase 1 is to be complete by H plus 15 minutes.
All units are to be in position for Phase 2 by H plus 20.
The Mosquitos will be in the area from H plus 30.
I will give time checks on the radio net at regular intervals, starting at H plus 10.

    SERVICE/SUPPORT
    No change

    COMMAND AND SIGNAL
    Callsigns
    McKennaforce HQ is callsign ZEBRA.
The Stuart troops are callsigns SUGAR 1 [player] and SUGAR 2
    The infantry are callsign INDIA
The Forward Air Controller is callsign BRYLCREAM
Any questions? Right, make your own plans and brief your people quickly. Good luck and good hunting!
