    Can't find STA

Post by bobbyboarder on Wed Jul 06, 2016 7:16 pm

I was a tank commander in the US Marine Corps and this seems like the kind of game I'd really enjoy. I can't seem to find the actual STA itself. Maybe because I'm dumb Wink In this link,, I see links for mission packs but not the STA. Whats the direct link to download it?

Wow I feel like an idiot, thanks for pointing that out. I got Steel Armor six months ago, fantastic game. I wanted another game like it and stumbled upon this one.

SF is both similar and different from SABoW. The latter is more modern and the graphics are somewhat better but I find SF to be more user-friendly interface -wise. Also unlike SABoW you have tons of missions( well over 150 I total) to play with and many, many models of tanks/vehicles and guns.

Being the more recent product, SABOW is definitely better at some important aspects, like better simulation of the radio net (almost completely missing in SF, apart from a sort of M1A2-style 'IVIS option' in the map screen, where enemies spotted by friendlies are plotted, instead of radio spotreps or contact reports as represented more realistically in SABOW). And SABOW has Artificial Intelligence which is both more controllable (when in the player's platoon) and less inclined to indulge in the mad solo charges you may often see in SF, and which I suspect leads some players to play solo and abandon any effort to play the platoon leader role. My attempt to apply the latter somewhat was described here...

...although regaining control after your tanks have spotted and begun to charge the enemy is still a challenge!

With STA, SF's main advantage is as Frinik has said, the vast range of playable AFVs and missions. And because it isn't a 'tanksim inside a wargame' like SABOW, you can get something resembling realistic orders, aka a 'briefing', for each mission. And despite limitations, SF's AI and command & control is vastly better than WW2 Battle Tanks T-34-vs-Tiger. Although like SABOW, the latter better represents the important topic of target indications.
