What does parameter N14(clap) of the track?

Post by lockie on Thu Oct 08, 2015 11:24 am

Here's a short explanation what does "clap"(No14, red in the table) for the track. See all parameters of the tracks().
    Parameters of the track.

In short "clap" is a distance between two sidewall(profile) of the track texture.
Track texture consist of the three parts:
    1. track
    2. sidewall
    3. tooth
Here's example of the KV-1(ekran) track.
    Here's entry from common_res.engcfg
    kv1b_l,TRACKS1,0.1,0.7,0.065,142,348,358,380,376,412,4608, 0.01,0.75,0,0.03;
    where
TRACKS1 is entire texture, located here:
    Steel Fury - Kharkov 1942\data\k42\loc_rus\textures\tracks\techn_tracks10_c.dds

Let's separate it to see more comfortable:

This is a picture where track and two sidewalls are located:

As we can see two "blue" sidewalls are "walking" across the track from center to outside. The ideal position is equal to value "1". So, why we need the other values? Sometimes, value "1" may cause an effect of "hole" in the track especially, if track has parts located outside of the track's main part.

Conclusion: usually there is no need to change this value differ from "1". All other adjustments depends on your thoroughness.

Thanks to will73 for his help to prepare this tutorial.

Is it possible to implement 2 rows of teeth?

BTW, I thought that all Shermans (and familiar AFVs) had tracks with 2 rows of teeth, but have found that HVSS versions were the exception.
