    Steel Sound Mod (SSM)

    Post by lockie on Tue Aug 12, 2014 4:49 pm

    Steel Sound Mod was made to support Steel Tank Add-on mod(STA).
    Features:
    - almost all sounds aligned to the format mono, 16bit
    ATTENTION!
    It is STRICTLY recommended before sound mod installation - delete the next two folders:
    - data\k42\loc_rus\sounds\speech\ger
    - data\k42\loc_rus\sounds\speech\tank
    Then install SSM 2.x.

    Installation order:
    1. Steel Sound Mod 2.3 (SSM 2.3)
    2. Any Game Mission Pack (optional)
    3. STA x.x
    4. Current Update
    5. Any Weather Mod (optional)

    After SSM has been installed, it should look like this: ...data\k42\loc_rus\sounds\speech

    I'm really confused up to this point... the Steel Sound Mod 2.0 link doesn't do anything other than install some browser application. Do you still need this before you install STA 1.0?

    You are clicking on the wrong download button. Try the small grey download button on the bottom left. My experience with free download sites: never click on colorful large buttons. The correct one is usually not blue, not green, not red, but grey. And when you hover your mouse over it, a link with the file name you are looking for should be displayed at the status bar.

    SSM 2.0 is optional. It just has to be enabled before STA 1.0 if you want to use it.

    Honestly I don't see a small grey download button in the bottom left... Above I clicked on blue Steel Sound Mod 2.0...

    not seeing anything... and the same for the STA mod in general.

    SSM 1.0 & SSM 2.2

    Post by p38pilot on Fri Dec 04, 2015 1:55 am

    Just noticed SSM is now updated to 2.2. I'm using the older SSM 1.0. What is different in the new one?

    Best way to find out is to download the new mod open it up and see what new sounds have been added to compare it with the old one....

    There is only one main dif. - added generic Japan speech. But since there are no Japan vechicles/infantry - it doesn't effect gameplay. U may simply delete these folders after installation:
    data\k42\loc_rus\sounds\speech\inf_jpn
    data\k42\loc_rus\sounds\speech\tank_jpn

    v.2.2
    - updated some sounds
    - minor changes applied
    23.10.2015

    v.2.1
    - replaced some phrases in mono mode
    (The main idea of the new sounds is to remove all the stereo (2 channels) sounds, substituting them
    with mono (1 channel) sounds. In this way, the size of the stereo sounds is divided by 2, saving computer resources).
    Special thanks to Txema.
    19.08.2015

    v.2.0
    - added generic Japan speech

    Cool that all sounds you can change as you wish.Sometimes the problem is to determine to wich tank the sound belongs.Couldnt find KV 2 shot sound for example .Can anyone give full description of the sounds,shots,engines and pillars?

    Hi, weit
    U're welcome to shout it out loud! Laughing
    To determine shot sound u've to start from the tank config. Let's take KV-2.
    1. Open with notepad++:
    data\k42\loc_rus\levels\levels\tech_cfg\kv2.engcfg
    2. find entry:
    weapons()
    {
    //name weapon, shot dummy, recoil dummy, turret name, loader place
    M10T, s_gun, db_gun, head1, wp_loader;
    DT, s_mgun_03, , head1, wp_loader;

    // RGF_1T, s_mgun_02g, , head2, wp_loader;
    DT, s_mgun_02, , head2, wp_loader;
    DT, s_mgun_01, , head3, wp_mgunner;

    RGF_1T, s_pp_gun, , head4, wp_commander;
    NAGANT_T, s_pp_gun, , head4, wp_commander;
    // RGF_1T, s_pp_gun_02, , head5, wp_mgunner2;
    // NAGANT_T, s_pp_gun_02, , head5, wp_mgunner2;

    }
    M10T it is weapon - gun.
    4. Open file:
    data\k42\loc_rus\levels\LEVELS\common\common_res.engcfg
    and find the entry with a word: M10T
    M10T,,%WEAP_RBARRET%,24,152,1,0.4,0.1,1,1,0,20,1,1,1,shot_howit,reload4,,drop1,1,txt_gun_m30,gun_shot_pat,,M10T;
    shot_howit it's our sound
    3. Let's find smth. similar in the folder:
    data\k42\loc_rus\sounds\shots
    Here we're: shot_howit.wav

    While the Pyrgos scenario works, I don't have any voices or engine noises.

    HAHA!  I am lucky enough to have the only Stealth Tank that fought in the war!    No voices and no engine noise either.

    Anyone know how to fix it?

    Does the sound work for the other missions or the stock ones?

    The sound in all scenarios--both original and GMP--work fine unless there is US equipment used.

    Can u start the mission "River of Doom"/GMP3.32/N02? It is mission for US SPG M-36. There are only American and German troops. So, u should
    hear English language from infantry and crewmen.

    Good work!
    But why don't u make a new mod? Let's say "Alternative Sound mod" v.1.0
    It'll be easy to install and check it out.
    Here's example:

    Maybe someone more experienced will use some sounds I found for his sound mod..(I used for Pershing firing sound shot of T 72. 125 mm cannon). Sounds are taken from you tube .To download vid. add ss to youtube in adress panel of chosen video and press enter . It will look like this https://www.ssyoutube.com ......Change cuted fragment in wav .Thank You for the link .I just replaced some sounds and it hardly can be viewed as the mod .I would replace many sounds in the game .Hits of shells sounds in many cases are far from resemble real.. When Ill make all the changes maybe then it will be reasonable to present it as alternative mod.

    Lockie,

    You asked, "Can u start the mission "River of Doom"/GMP3.32/N02? It is mission for US SPG M-36. There are only American and German troops. So, u should
    hear English language from infantry and crewmen."

    I started River of Doom and heard no engines.  I then loaded an AP shell and, despite the text at the bottom of the screen, heard no one say anything.

    That's interesting bug! Rolling Eyes
    So, we need to check out does SF folder contains all necessary sounds.
    US/GBR infantry:
    ...data\k42\loc_rus\sounds\speech\inf_usa\

    US/GBR crewmen
    ...data\k42\loc_rus\sounds\tank_usa\

    There should be many files. Also check out the presence of the next files:
    data\k42\loc_rus\levels\LEVELS\common\snd_list_usa.engcfg
    data\k42\loc_rus\levels\LEVELS\common\snd_list1_usa.engcfg
    data\k42\loc_rus\levels\LEVELS\common\snd_list2_usa.engcfg

    And I need confirmation from other users that US/GBR speech is not presented.

    So, I checked, with mixed results.

    ...data\k42\loc_rus\sounds\speech\inf_usa\  ---- I do not have this file.  The only one there is inf_ger

    US/GBR crewmen
    ...data\k42\loc_rus\sounds\tank_usa\ ---- this file I do not have.

    There should be many files. Also check out the presence of the next files: ---  I have the next three files.
    data\k42\loc_rus\levels\LEVELS\common\snd_list_usa.engcfg
    data\k42\loc_rus\levels\LEVELS\common\snd_list1_usa.engcfg
