'Circle the wagons!' - what happens when your tank commanders have watched too many Western movies?

It's not widely known that in response to the Sherman's reputation for burning crews, the British experimented with a rudimentary ejector seat, seen here in a recently-declassified photograph of the system being tested. The lack of a parachute may be one reason that development was stopped.

It was a good shot from ~1000km
I had HE shell in my Pz.IV/F1 gun and saw BT-5 at a long distance. HE is not good shell against armor, but I didn't want to spoil the shell and made a shot!
    And I got it!

Nice one lockie, especially with that short 75, it's such a chore to use for me, be it on the StuG III B or Pz IV F1, worst trajectory ever... Which is why I edited the 2nd mission of the StuG campaign and made the player vehicle a StuG III F and added some stronger Sov. opposition so you have stuff to shoot with your new shiny long PaK! Very Happy

Basically, it's 2 5cm Pak 38s, 2-4 short 75 infantry guns and 2 plts of Ger inf (along with the player's StuG III F plt) against 3 KV-1s, 4 T-34s, 4 T-70s and 3 T-60s + 3 plts of inf and Il-2 support - quite an interesting battle, much moreso than the original with the puny StuG III Bs. Very Happy

Managed to almost beat it on the 2nd playthrough, but a pesky Il-2 strafed my vehicle, somehow wounding my commander, without even killing him, hurting nobody else, and without even damaging any of the SPG's components, JUST as I dispatched the last KV and was about to mop up the remaining Sov inf with my surviving wingman... Ah well, such is war! After that, my crew apparently got angry and charged the remaining Soviet inf head-on, taking hits from their grenades in the process, and managed to rout them, which caused the victory music to play lol, so I guess this battle would have been a victory instead of a failure in just slightly different circumstances.

Yeap, it was a lucky shot! 75mm short barrel at the distance ~1000m - it is impossible to hit even from the 10 shots! But I was a lucky dog  Cool

U're cheater!  Laughing  Rolling Eyes  What a Face
    Just kidding Smile
Unfortunately, me as a mission creator - was out of choice to use the other SPG  Sad
BUT let's take the whole ability of SF power - it is a great game! I had to use Commander seat and control the gunner with targeting!
    I've assigned:
Ctr+"Numpad +" as undershot. It does that AI gunner have to take upper.
Ctr+"Numpad -" as overshot. It does that AI gunner have to take down.
Ctr+"Numpad 0" as AI got the target!
It was a big fun to control AI shooting! I highly recommend u to try this method  Basketball StuGIII C/D AI gunner may hit even KV-1!  cheers  alien  Cool

    Nice screenies!

Here's a series from a custom mission I did in the ME, showcasing some 3.1 eye-candy and custom stuff I've yet to release Smile

First move at dawn, towards a lightly held village situated on a river crossing

It's quickly overrun and defensive positions for the coming counterattack established, which promptly goes in, the leading tanks - long barrelled Panzer IIIs and IVs - appearing over the crest straight in front of the village at 1000m

After they close to about 800-700m fire is opened from all the available tanks, at this point about half-dozen T-70s, a couple of lend-lease Stuarts and the remaining platoon of T-34s, including my own - the first of the fascists begin going up in flames, even after the game decided to break both my gunsights, apparently in the intention of simulating 'inferior' Soviet equipment or just pure bad luck

A pretty close range melee follows at ranges between 500 and 300m, me attempting to deal with the remaining German armor with the help of the single surviving T-70 that wasn't annihilated by the Germans, who managed to close the gap over the fields in front of the village and were then converging on the bridge. The last tanks are dealt with rapidly with flanking shots at 300m, after which I ford the river to expell any remaining Panzergrenadiers who are still attempting to force a crossing with the few Hanomags that survived the clash. An observation halt is ordered and the victory screen pops in

A clockwise view of the carnage

A flanking Pz IV dispatched to the right of the defensive positions centered on the bridge

A Pz III with accompanying Panzergrens that bought it in quick succession

The Panzer IV platoon that opened the battle and got mauled by the massed defensive fire shortly thereafter

Long barrelled Pz III that got sniped twice by a T-70 to the hull side evacuation hatch, at a respectable 1021m

The hulks of the Panzergrens' halftracks

One of the Stuarts that got lit up right after the Germans fired their first salvo

Heroes of the Soviet Union & Fritzes awaiting their six feet of Lebensraum

The tactical map at the end of the engagement & some stats
