Firing deflected by bushes and tree branches

Post by KurtTank on Mon Aug 10, 2015 12:36 am

Probably an explanation somewhere on the forum, but why when an opposing tank is partially in bushes do my tank gun shots go right through the tank? This happens frequently, and I often have to wait while I maneuver or wait until the opposing tank fully emerges from any brush/bushes/trees to shoot? Other times, the shot goes through the foliage and kills the tank or infantry. It looks like the leaves are made of metal?

This has to do with the armour strength of the trees . The values are too high I suspect. This is why your 56 tons Tiger will swing on a broken tree branch or any fallen tree may tip over your apc or light tanks. The trees deflect shots as if they were made of metal. One solution would be to reduce the armour strength value or the trees ?

It is quite comical  jocolor , but annoying when regular mg bullets and other shells should rip it to shreds! Seems there was discussion of this on the Graviteam forum when I first started with SF. Any idea whatever became of any solution? Question

That's interesting bug Cool  I've met it only one time on the new map "sta_villers_bocage". have no idea how to fix that.

They are Smile it's a long story. Default leaves had 100mm armor. One of the NTA variants had 0mm armor of the leaves. Soon, appeared that there was no problem to shoot stupid AI through the foliage. So, now leaves has armor to protect idiotic AI against human. Anyway, u may re-adjust it. There is folder:
    ...data\k42\loc_rus\armor_maps\objs\
where armor maps located . Paint all of them with RGB 0,0,0 or make alpha channel completely black (opacity).

    PS
Here's a quote abt. "foliage armor" from Otto Carius memories:
there were also some humorous episodes. Once in a while, we shot off the crowns of the trees on the other side of the railway embankment because they appeared "suspicious." Ivan had sharpshooters in them. They breathed down our necks and prevented any type of free movement. During one such incident, a young infantryman, who clearly hadn't been at the front very long, came running out of breath to my tank.
He excitedly explained that the Russians had posted armored sharpshooters in the trees. He had observed exactly how our machine-gun ammo had bounced off them. He thought I really ought lo be shooting in the trees with main gun rounds.
And what had the well-meaning youth actually seen? The tracers of our rounds flew in all directions after contact with a branch; at the same time, however, the trajectory of the machine-gun rounds was naturally quite different. Our comrade departed reassured. It should be noted, however, that he had only been a bit premature with the facts.

I've never dealt with armor maps, seen them, but never messed with them. Everything you listed is Russian to me!drunken What app do you open TGA armor maps with? I have a new Windows 8 computer and can't figure out how to open TGA files, much less edit them...
