I like some of the sounds in this, especially the Tiger II engine sound.

I know at least three different sound mod. Pay attention also that some users makes their personal sound mod. Sound mod from Frinik is quite popular, though it's partly not compatible with STA.
Why don't u ask author's video, which sound mod did he install?

I did, but I doubt he types in English, the text looks Russian. I used Google Translate to ask him.....hmmmm, I'm learning a lot these days!

Got SSM v1.1 and will try it out. How do I combine the sounds I like from both versions to create my own SSM? Is it simply opening it up in text form and taking the sound file that I like, eg., Tiger II engine file, and replacing it in a new sound file folder of my own?

It's easy. Just install new sound mod over SSM. It'll overwrite the default sound. I've to say that sound mod from the mentioned video it is a very poor. For some reasons author didn't want to install SSM and that was caused to the many tanks engines were out of appropriate sounds. Also it is a very weired to hear birds whistles during the tank battle.

Is it simply opening it up in text form and taking the sound file that I like, eg., Tiger II engine file, and replacing it in a new sound file folder of my own?
Then u should think abt. er personal sound mod Wink

Is the Tiger II engine sound accurate? That's about the only change I wanted....maybe the crew yelling all the time could also be replaced. The crew sounds in his video were somewhat better. I like SSM 1.0's tank hit sounds, and most other sounds, but crew yelling hurts my ears. Crying or Very sad

    I've no idea.

It's possible. U've to do the next.
    1. Make a copy of the next file from the new Sound mod:
    ...\data\k42\loc_rus\sounds\engines\diesel_4.wav
    2. Move this file to the same folder in the SF directory.
    That's it.

As for crew yelling. U may delete the next folder or some files(or replace with a better ones, if u've any), which u don't like:
    ...data\k42\loc_rus\sounds\speech\tank_ger
