The late tiger needs a camo overhaul. The Whukid had made a lovely one in his Late Skins mod but unfortunately it's not compatible with the STA mod...

This one is fine. The colours are a bit too fresh-looking but it's really rather good:

Anyway, this late model Tiger I is definitely what is needed. One with the 'dustbin' cupola is no good for this mission.

This is a very good free download on the battle:

https://chindits.wordpress.com/2011/03/30/the-battle-for-villers-bocage-normandy-1944/

If includes a satellite view of the battlefield, which probably looked much the same in 1944. If you look at the 1944 Normandy maps in Panzer Elite, for example, and compare them to modern satelite views, the differences are small, mainly some new roads.

That's a very good source, but we can do mission only with a very severe limits. It does mission will be somekind slightly looks as a real one, but of course far away from the real one. I think it goes without saying. Though, it'll be based on the real story.
Here's a "new" building with a new "stone" texture.

Deviator has sent me a newly prepared polygon for the new "Wittmann" mission. Of course, it looks great, but I can't believe that it is landscape exactly from France or Belgium. Well, it rather looks as a typical landscape from the Western Ukraine, which is similar to the Europe, but in fact not. This is mostly because of the trees. Aspen, birch doesn't suit completely. So, it's time to make an alder (or at least, let it be alder Very Happy)!

Here's a "bird view" of the polygon sta_viller_bocage by Deviator.

And this is a close view of the polygon area with a new trees "alder" implemented.
As my point it looks fine and it looks to some extent differ as it is in Ukraine. Well, may be this is landscape from Belgium or France?  Cool

PS
Perhaps, we should change the 3D model of the telegraph post.

I think it's time to make smth. similar to the "theatre scene" or "open/outdoor theatre". There should be simple scaffold with gallows pole, just kidding Smile
I think simple podium with a wall would be enough.

That's one of the episode how to force AI move along the road Smile

As u can see I had to remove everything, except roads to provide fast polygon generation.
AI didn't want to move exactly along the road. His behavior was similar to the dude being drunk to the world Smile
There is also one amazing moment. I've paced two M5A1 Sturat at the column head. It is logically - tanks are light thus they moves fast. BUT!!!
As it appeared Cromvell is faster! So, now three Cromvell is the head of the column.

So, finally I forced AI moved along the road and now the general testing started.
Here's initial position of the Wittmann's "Tiger".

This is the town.

This is the whole map.

And here's history note:
In the wake of the D-Day landings on 6th June 1944, the Allies would make rapid progress inland in what would become the Battle of Normandy.
In the days following the invasion Allied ground forces commander General Bernard Montgomery would initiate Operation Perch, with the target being the strategically important port city of Caen. With the beleaguered German forces now being squeezed on both fronts, a number of the premier units would find themselves leaving the Eastern Front and heading west. Among them would be the I SS Panzer Corps, which included Michael Wittmann’s 2. Kompanie of the 101st SS Heavy Panzer Battalion (Schwere SS-Panzer-Abteilung 101).
By 12th June, Allied formations including the famous 7th Armoured Division (the “Desert Rats”) had reached the outskirts of the city. Having initially sliced through the fast-retreating German defences with relative ease, things would begin to slow down after a series of hard-fought battles near the town of Tilly-sur-Seulles – defended by the well-equipped Panzer-Lehr Division. Nevertheless, by the morning of 13th June the flanks of the Panzer-Lehr had been massively exposed – setting up the possibility of their being completely enclosed by the Allied forces.
The events of 13th June would actually produce two heroes. While Michael Wittmann would be awarded the swords to his Knight’s Cross following the morning assault, the defence of Villers-Bocage in the afternoon would earn Bill Cotton the Military Cross.
The Battle of Villers Bocage demonstrated the growing strength of the Germans around the lodgement area and that an Allied breakthrough would have to be won with some difficulty. The more ambitious parts of Operation Perch (codenamed Operation Wild Oats) which were to include an attempted sweep through the area to the east of Caen and an airborne drop of British 1st Airborne were abandoned.

It is briefing:
Initial situation:
By 12th June, the enemy formations including the 7th Armoured Division ("Desert Rats") had reached the outskirts of the city Villers-Bocage. By the morning of 13th June the flanks of the Panzer-Lehr had been massively exposed: setting up the possibility of their being completely enclosed by the enemy forces. Central to the enemy plan is the main road towards Caen, and the high ground located at Hill 213 (Point 213), right in the middle of the path here is the small town of Villers-Bocage. To prevent the move by the British troops, Waffen-SS divisional commander SS-Obergruppenfuhrer "Zepp" Dietrich have ordered to SS-Oberscharfuhrer Wittmann and his "Tigers" to make their way to the area from their base camp in Beauvais.

Combat order:
2nd Company of Schwere SS-Panzer-Abteilung prevent the advancing British column along National Highway No175 from Villiers-Bocage to Caen.

Your Task:
You are SS-Oberscharfuhrer Michael Wittmann. There is one Pz.VI "Tiger" under your command. The callname of your tank is "ELEFANT". The callname of the scout squad is "VIPER". The callname of the Head Quarter is "FOX". Your tasks are:
1. Move to the observation place, then wait for the scout/VIPER message: Rockie is out of town.
2. After that message has been received, you have to intercept the enemy column and destroy it.
3. Then move to the down town and capture Viller-Bocage.
There will be additional "Tiger", which help you to destroy column and capture the town. BE CAREFUL with the enemy scouts. If they will spot your tank, then mission failed!
Don't move until you will get confirmation signal from scout squad!
Good luck!

Reconnaissance:
According to the scout report there is enemy column consist of 10 tanks "Cromvell"/Sherman "Firefly" and 10 APC "Universal Carrier" with infantry.

Looking forward to this!

Only comments would be:

1. As there were M3 half tracks in the British column between Point 213 and Villers Bogage, as well as carriers, you might want to include some of those, too, for a bit more variety.

2. Is the AI not able to deal with rows of houses with no gardens, like these in the centre of the town?

This is quite the work building this mission, a beauty of a map and can only begin to think of how this mission will play out.

From what you have posted here... this will be a big thank's! Smile Wicked

This will be cool. It should be difficult to replicate Wittmann's achievement. It is hard to simulate the surprise and confusion caused to the column by Wittmann's attack. Those cold blooded AI only deal in 0's and 1's Smile

На жаль, АІ так само не хоче їхати по дорозі, коли я вставив всі домівки та юніти. Проект тимчасово відкладено, бо я втратив інтерес та мені урвався терпець. Беру паузу.
Unfortunately, AI still doesn't want to go along the road. So, temporally I've lost interest to to this mission.

OK but why not instead start the mission at the point it really started for Wittman - with the British collum already halted in position? Some Fireflies and Cromwells halted in all round defense on Point 213; the Rifle Brigade's half-tracks, carriers and 6 Pounders lined up along the road, back into town; and some Art Obs, command and recce tanks, and some other Cromwells and a Firefly, back in the centre or northern edge of Villers Bocage. No need for the AI to do anything fancy, just react when the Germans attack.

Lockie,   grab your family and go out and "paint the town red" for the night, try that rock and roll club "Route 66" as a starting point.

Remember, as Jack Nicholson said...
