A couple words abt Battle of Villers-Bocage, 13 June 1944

    1. M. Wittmann came into town
    2. M. Wittmann destroyed three tanks "Cromwell"
    3. position of the tank Captain Pat Dias
    4. fight with squad "B"
    5. fight with tank Captain Pat Dias
    6. workaround of the tank M. Wittmann
    7. fight with squad "A"

As we can see there are 12 British tanks. Let's say:

    2. 2x "Firefly"
    3. 6x M5 "Stuart"

And there should be 5x M3 halftrack, 5x APC Universal Carrier, 2x QF6 guns, 2x Jeep, 1x infantry platoon vs 1x Pz. VI "Tiger".

Given the fact that the AI is fairly aggressive in game it will be difficult to re-create that battle in a mission. The balance is too lopsided against the lone Tiger. 3 late Tigers , well concealed, possibly but a single Tiger....

More interesting would be Ernst Barkmann's Panther ambush against a column of Shermans in July 1944.

That's why I didn't write: mission is under progress Smile I just started to compile information. In fact, AI aggressive could be lowered by decreasing "experience". We may create British troops which will consist of dumb and dumber Smile I.e. "experience" = 30/20. And mission will be on the base of the historic action. It does it'll be close to the story, but not exactly the same. The big problem is polygon. There is the hell a lot of work with area, especially how to create paving stone road (cobblestone).
As for "Tiger" there is only one big threat for him - 2x Firefly. All other units are just for decoration.

More interesting would be Ernst Barkmann's Panther ambush against a column of Shermans in July 1944.
Could u plz, give me more details abt this battle?

So Barkmann's exploit would be easier to reproduce because it took place in the countryside not in a town...

What about Wittmann's final battle in Normandy, where he was killed during Operation Totalize.  I think it was three Tigers (including Wittmann's) against a group of Canadian Shermans and Fireflies and some British ones (Northhamptonshire Yeomanry).  Wittmann's Tiger was penetrated and blew up, killing him; maybe your Mission Lockie could see how Wittmann could have survived Very Happy  I believe the Tigers were in a wood and were assaulted from three sides.

I've found a very detailed report abt mission "Barkmann's corner".
    http://wargamerabbit.wordpress.com/2014/09/19/barkmanns-corner-aar-2/

There are photos of the area and a very detailed description with steps. We've almost prepared mission. There is only Sherman M4A1 absent.
AFAIK, there are no any missions for Panther A.

This is good idea! Firefly will be included in NovUpd and as a Canadian/British tanks we may use Sherman M4A2.

I don't think the circumstances of Wittmann's death have ever been definitively established.

Great Documentary Very Happy   Thanks for pointing it out.  Really well done.  Very interesting Very Happy  So it was the Canadians that got him Very Happy   His final battle would still make a great mission for us; from either side Very Happy Elkins' Firefly could also be a great mission for us Very Happy

This really irks me! Describing Witmann as Germany's greatest tank ace is such a lie or at the very least a misleading and false statement. Kurt Knispel is without any doubt the greatest tank ace not only of Germany but of all times! 192 confirmed kills possibly more than 200.Of course he was not a Waffen SS so not a darling of the Nazi party and in addition his unconventional attire and attitude( He once beat a SS who was mistreating a Soviet prisoner)did not sit well with the propagandists but he was one hell of a man and a hero as he saved also some of his fellow crew on at least one occasion. Here's a short biography of Knispel:

Yes I know that's the horrible part, because he was not Mr. Waffen SS (a lot of Neo Nazis idolize guys like Witmann) Knispel has been all but forgotten except by those passionate about WW2 tanking. He didn't get to write about himself like Otto Carius as he died a mere 2 weeks before the end of WW2. May be it was better because had he gone into Soviet captivity they would have enacted harsh retribution for his 192 to 195 tank kills against them. If you read Gwerman there's an excellent book by Franz Kurowski which I recommend and he figured prominently.

One interesting thing about Knispel. One of his sisters married an American and lives in the US.

I looked at the abstracts and now I understand what you mean by "if you read Gwerman". I thought you were referring to an author until I saw the book was in German. Laughing

Too bad there's not an English translation of that book. It looks interesting.

I've got a message from Deviator that he has started to make polygon for the 'Wittmann' mission! He needs a barn with stoned walls.

Looking forward to this! I remember playing the mission in Panzer Commander; there was one for Barkmann's Corner, too.

It's worth mentioning that once made, the map/'polygon' can be used for other actions fought during the Battle of Villers Bocage, during which several Tigers were lost.

Eric Lefevre's 'Panzers in Normandy - Then and Now' is a good source on these fights, with lots of photos and maps. He gives quite a detailed description of Wittman's action, complete with several diagrams, although different sources describe the sequence of events differently.

For a bit of nostalgia and with a suitable profile set up in Dxtory, you can still have fun with this classic:

    Panzer Commander's 'Barkmann's Corner':

    Panzer Commander's 'Wittman's Stand':

Deviator presented to us a couple screenshots from the new mission and polygon.

I think presented Tiger should be replaced on the more later model.
