Steel Fury KOREAN WAR missions / campaign mods?

Post by ezeight65 on Sun Jan 14, 2018 5:20 pm

I'm not a modder myself, but would anyone here be interested in designing missions and / or campaign mods for the KOREAN WAR?  Seems there were a decent amount of tank engagements during the Battle of Pusan Perimeter June-August 1950 between UN Forces (using mostly M24 Chaffee, M4A3E8 and then M26 Pershing tanks) and North Korean Forces (using T34-85 tanks).

Here's the link to a pretty good overview on the use of armor during the conflict from "Greatest Tank Battles" on Youtube:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qDDU0ZDYic8

Existing SF weather mods could be used, I think.  Apart from some updated tank skins, what else would have to be modded... or perhaps designed from scratch?  Terrain?  (North / South Korea is pretty hilly).  NK voice pack for crew commands?  NK uniform skins?  Thoughts?  Anybody else excited about this idea?  I'd be happy to help contribute whatever historical research is needed.

Yeah, it's interesting idea, but needs a lot of work:
    1. flora (new trees and bushes, perhaps the grass also)
    2. buildings (at least a couple new ones)
    3. at least one completely new map (polygon)
    4. Korean soldiers (two types: Northern, South)
    5. tank M24 Chaffee
Partly Korean soldiers are ready, if use Japan soldiers, but there should be a brand new uniform for both sides.

Having the Chafee would also serve for the WW2 campaigns as that tank was used in Europe in late 1944-early 1945.

Gotcha.  Thought the M24 Chaffee was already modded in game.  What about the M26 Pershing? Has that been modded for STA?  Looks like the UK fielded the Cromwell during Korea.  Some IS-2 heavy tanks on the NK side as well.  Here's some more info I found on Wiki:

If you own the game then you should know that the M26 Pershing is modded as well as the Cromwell ( 2 models), the JS-2 (both early and late models). The only models missing are the M24 Chaffee, the Centurion and the M46 Patton.

The presence of the vehicles and tanks doesn't make a big deal. The main problem is - force player to believe that it is exactly Korea or smth which looks like Korea or whatever. It does - without an appropriate landshaft it will be yet another skirmish SOV vs GER  bored
If u played mission for Japan side then u know what I'm talking abt. Do u believe it is smth. differ than default landshafts?
Here's video with "Chi-Ha" and "Pershing:

There should be another video Saturday Night Fever, 1st July 1939 (BA-10), but can't find it on youtube.

Just bought the digital version of SF on Amazon 2 weeks ago, Frinik...still exploring the game but I love it so far, and the mods make it that much more awesome. Can't believe the game is 10 years old. Very impressed.

I hear what you're saying about the needed time and labor for an all-new Korea map, lockie. Great videos of the Pershing and Type 97, btw!

Yes that game is what it is thanks in no small part to Lockie sunny , the soul behind Steel Fury's survival and rebirth as a thriving WW2 tank sim second only to Panzer Elite but much more modern and more to my taste to be honest. Had Lighthouse Interactive not gone belly up in 2010 who knows what kind of improved game engine would Steel Fury and Tiger vsT34 receive.... TvsT is dead and buried but to Lockie's eternal credit SF is alive and well. It 's also fortunate that people like you come and try and appreciate and keep it alive thanks to your interest and enthusiasm!

    cheers Cheers to you|!

Thanks, frinik -- very happy to have found this modding community.  Kind of a happy accident actually...I've really enjoyed playing WWII tank sims (I own Panzer Elite SE, iPanzer '44, Panzer Commander) and was searching for an available copy of TvsT to buy (impossible it seems) during the holidays when I stumbled on the STA website.  I was so impressed, I immediately bought SF (even the stock game is great!) and have no desire to even try TvsT now....everything I've read is that it's too buggy and virtually no modding support.

I just looked on the steam store and it was not listed. Is your IP outside the US? Maybe steam has different listings for different markets.

In don't think SF is listed on Steam anymore, Tanker -- just available on Amazon or Gamersgate now. About the same price on either site.
