Post by Lightning62 on Mon Dec 11, 2017 10:36 am

    Hi,
Can you help me with one techical question, please.
My old laptop is incapable to play SF with STA3.2. FPS goes too low (2-5 FPS) even in training missions and are minifreezes too.
Can you give some advices for obtaining new laptop or suitable (recommended) techical characterictics ?
    I myself founded Acer Aspire F F5-573G Silver NX.GD8EL.006 ( processor model IntelCore i7-7500U ; RAM 6GB; Harddisk 1 TB+ 128GB SSD; Nvidia GeForce 940MX; Win10) but my knowledges about computers is
big zero. Is this Acer suitable for playing SF STA 3.2. ?

    With best wishes

This laptop is crap for gaming Lightning62. A GTX 940 is a low end graphic card that can play old games but not Steel Fury as you ll have to lower the settings to low and ion addition any demanding mission  will stutter and lag.

OK minimum I recommend for a gaming laptop is a GTX 1050 4 gb . If you don t want a very expensive gaming laptop you can read the following article it gives you a list of affordable choices. I suppose you live in the US? If you can t afford one of the cheap gaming laptops then buy yourself a desktop as you ll pay less for similar specs.

    Hi,
here in Estonia I found only ASUS ROG Strix Full HD Kaby Lake laptops with GeForce GTX 1050 2GB GDDR5 ? Is there critical differences between GTX 2GB and GTX4GB to playing SF STA3.2 ?
Processor is IntelCore i7700HQ 6MB Cache, 2.8 GHz and HDD 1TB.

    With regards

Ok the difference in VRAM( Video Random Access Memory) also simply called video memory between say 2 gb and 4 boils down to the textures .The higher the textures in a video game the more video memory your graphic card will have to provide to allow you to paly the game at high or ultra visual settings. I supposed you ll want to play other games on your laptop right? Modern games use a lot of video memory because they are graphically very demanding and have high resolutions like 1920 X 1020 or even 4 Ks. Mind you if your laptop has 16 gbs of DDr4 RAM this will alleviate your problem. The laptop you are describing is nice and will allow you to play SF at high settings or medium for very infantry intensive missions. As far as other modern games are concerned Arma 3 , World of Tanks or War Thunder medium to high settings will be possible but some game may stutter and force you to lower the graphic settings.

Just to give you an example I have a an Acer Predator laptop with a GTX 1080 with 8 GBs of gddr5 VRAM and some missions on STA 3.2 I can only play at 35 fps despite the fact that my laptop is a beast in fact the third highest rated gaming laptop with a single GPU currently available. I have 32 gbs of RAM and an i7700 HQ like yours. Buy your Asus laptop and you ll be fine with it.

Go ahead and buy it. Asus is good brand , I own 2 of their machines, and with the GTX 1050m 4 Gbs you ll be able to play modern games at medium to high settings and SF won t cause any problems except anti-aliasing which is always iffy with SF or infantry heavy missions which may cause low fps.

No worries, it s worth the price.
