Any way to separate infantry from tanks?

Post by aleader on Sat Dec 02, 2017 7:08 pm

When in the map view, is there a way to give orders to tanks and infantry independently? For instance I'd like to first move infantry up into a town and not have all the tanks rush in ahead of them.

Unfortunately, no. That's a big flow of the game. AFAIK, it's possible in the newest game Steel Armor.

I assume you mean 'flaw' of the game?  That's too bad.  It's still fun, just takes away from the realism.  I've had SABOW (and Basra DLC) on my wishlist ever since it was released...just need to pull the trigger!  It's a must buy for me now during the winter steam sale.  Been craving a decent tank sim since I played the sh*t out of M1TP2 back in the day.

Ok, more questions.  Just played 'Hold on to Shahova v.2' a couple times through.  2nd time I think maybe my engine (gears?) were damaged as I could only reverse, the driver would not go forward.  Is there any way to tell if something is damaged in game or is this a bug?  Other issues:

    - Binoculars (B) wouldn't work in the commander hatch view

    - there were flames shooting out of my drivers hatch, but I was still able to traverse the gun, but not shoot?

    - the sound seems like it's right on top of me, but it's really happening far away.  Is this just the way it is, or do I have something installed wrong?  I have SSM 2.3 installed (before STA)

    - my mouse in the gunner view is making things very difficult as it jitters the view and moves everything around when I'm trying to steady it with the directional keys.  Maybe I have to remap somehow?

That's a very HARD mission! U've to fight with a German panzers then retreat and still to be alive!  Scared

U just got the icon  painted in red that smth. broken, suppose gear.

    - Binoculars (B) wouldn't work in the commander hatch view
Oh, come on. It's not true. Binocular works fine. Scale is 6x.

    - there were flames shooting out of my drivers hatch, but I was still able to traverse the gun, but not shoot?
    Don't forget it's a game  happy

    - the sound seems like it's right on top of me, but it's really happening far away.
Yeap, sounds is always caused some troubles. Nobody/no-anything is perfect. I confess. Anyway, if u've a skill in sound editing then be my guest!

    - my mouse in the gunner view is making things very difficult
Mouse is not supposed to be a common device for the user. Try to use keyboard. U'll get more fun with a keyboard! flag

Got past the mission the 3rd time and had 5 tank kills!  Binoculars don't seem to work.  Tried it 3 times now.  Work fine in the tutorial missions.  So that painted red shell icon is the damage indicator?  With the sound I've noticed a lot of popping sounds like something isn't working right.  And both the mouse and keyboard are working at the same time, which is what is causing the issue.  When I use the keyboard if the mouse is scrolling a bit, it makes it impossible to steady the aim.  Is there any way to disable the mouse in the gunner view?

I'm also getting 101 Exception errors with several missions.  Is this also normal?  This game is fun, but all of the errors and difficulties switching positions and such really make it maddening.  I will keep at it though...

I have to say Microprose really nailed it with M1TP2 back in the day.  I installed it yesterday to see if it still went, and other than the issues getting it going in Win 7, the UI, sound, graphics and gameplay were WAY ahead of their time in that game.  It's still fun 20 years later...

    Uncheck option "Simple target".

STA1.2 is the most stable version, if u've errors it does u've wrong installation or didn't apply 4Gb patch or some files corrupted.
Anyway, STA1.2 is no supported anymore.

Thanks, I'll uncheck that. If 1.2 is the most stable, I'm afraid to try 3.2! I've reinstalled the game twice already because of corrupt files. I followed the installation instruction order, although there is some confusion as I've found different posts with different orders of install. Any idea why the binoculars would stop working?

    Binocular has only Commander.

    I have been playing SF for 10 years and tried all the successive mods with very few issues. Most errors you have are due to ;

1)human error 90% of the time

    2) corrupt files when downloading a mod or mission pack 10 % of the time

Yes, I understand that. Doesn't work. May be the install I suppose.

Might try to re-do it again without the SSM, just the STA and 4GB patch and see what happens. If I uninstall the mods in JSGME it should remove the errors should it not?

Figured it out.  Had 'Another Effects Mod' installed that was causing the errors.  I now just have LEO K Effects Data installed, and it all works fine and looks great.  The tank MG sounds are terrible though...they sound like a typewriter.  Is SSM and/or STA supposed to improve them to sound more realistic?  I've seen youtube videos (with STA installed) where the MG sounds and small arms are much better.

Also, had the Binoculars mapped to MMB instead of B.  They work now. Must not be able to remap them to a mouse button.

AFAIK, Tiger' MG has two sounds:
    1. MG-34
    2. MG-42
But I need to check it out. Anyway, if u're ready to be involved into SF modding then be my guest! friends
Here's a sound format of SF:
    - wav, PCM, 44100Hz, 16bit, mono

Not interested in modding...wife and 2 kids, no time Very Happy  Anyways, I'm not slagging anyone's efforts, I'm just asking if the MG sounds should sound so horrid.  Even M1TP2 and PE had better stock MG sounds.  I installed the SSM and then STA.  What I'm asking is if either of those should alter the sounds of the MG?  Do I maybe not have something installed correctly?

I guess maybe I should check my facts before I start bitching Embarassed  Didn't realize it was the MG 34.  That gun sounds quite muted and weak in real life.

But to my question, does STA overwrite a lot of the SSM?  I've never looked at the overwritten files one at a time.  I listened to the wav files in the SSM folder and I really like the way the MG's sound in there.
