Newbie needs help getting the game to run in Win 7

Post by Paul RS on Thu Nov 30, 2017 11:30 am

    Gents,

Need some help and advice in getting the game to run in Win 7. I've tried the following:

Vanilla install to new folder on D drive. (copy purchased as a download from Gamersgate)

    Unofficial patch (Eng)

    Compatibility: Win 7, XP SP2 and SP3

    Run as administrator

    4GB patch

    Reinstall

    STA1

So far nothing seems to work. I have an NVIDIA GTX 1080. Driver 384.94
Direct x 11, (loaded 9c as part of the install)
Windows 7 Home premium, 64 bit (service pack 1)

I'm familiar with JSGME having used it on numerous other games and am relatively 'PC savvy' but can't seem crack this problem. Clearly it can be played on Win 7, just not by me.

    Thanks

    Paul

    Did you read the FAQ?

Yes, the FAQ doesn't specifically cover the issues I appear to be having. I've also spent an hour or so searching the net to try and find a simple answer to the problems I'm having. no luck, so far.

    Thanks

Specify the issue. What happened? U don't see the screen or game crash or didn't start anymore or what's going on?
May be anti-virus block a game from the starting.

Click on the shortcut and get the mini revolving ring next to the mouse pointer for around 3-4 seconds, then nothing. I just use the default windows anti virus. I'll try disabling that and see if I get any further.

    Thanks

Have you tried applying compatibility settings to the game? Right click the .exe file either click on the properties or troubleshoot compatibility option. I have played the game with Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8 , 8.1 and currently Windows 10 without any issues.

    Frinik,

Yes, tried XP SP 2 and 3, vista, Win 7, Win 98. The game just won't start. Question, do I need to install all the add ons listed on the forum to get the program to work in Win 7 or should it boot up from a vanilla install? I have the game installed on my D drive in its own folder.

    Thanks

    Paul RS, install STA1.2. http://stasf2008.ephpbb.com/t6-stasteel-fury-1-2
Start the game with starter.exe located in the main folder.

Start the game with starter.exe located in the main folder.

installed STA1.2 using JGSME, on fresh install. clicked on starter.exe. Nothing, just the revolving  wait sprite for around 5 seconds and then it disappeared. I had set compatibility to win XP SP 3 and ran a administrator, then tired it without admin and compatibility, still no luck.

    Cheers

it's obviously, that something(brandmauer/firewall?) blocks the starter.exe at er PC side. Can't help, sorry.

Paul, you don't need any add on the game should start on any OS with or without add-ons. If compatibility has not helped then it means your game is incomplete( there are essential files missing ) or corrupt.

Normally no AV would stop the game from starting. My feeling is that there are files missing which explains why the game won't even start. Can you post a snapshot of your game directory where the .exe file is located? It could be something as simple as a .dll file missing to prevent the game from starting.

I purchased the game from Gamersgate as download last week.

    bin/rel dir

    Root dir.

JSGME is set up and functioning but nothing is installed.

UH where  s your .exe file is your game main directory???? This is why your game won t start you don't have it....

Here s copy of one of my games main directory. Note the starter.exe file without which your game won t start?

Ok try copying that shell.exe file that you have in your bin folder and paste it into your game directory .It might work and allow your game to start. Otherwise you ll need a clean installation.
